I was born in Washington, D.C., and raised in the same small town in Michigan where my parents grew up. For my eleventh birthday, I got a camera, and I’ve had one ever since. Although I graduated with degrees in English, history, and writing, I kept circling back to photography, the way you keep seeing the same tree over and over again when you’re lost. Eventually, I realized that tree was what I had been looking for all along.
In 2007, I started a blog and began shooting personal projects. Before I knew it, my blog took off, and I was invited to participate in group shows across the country, interviewed on other blogs and podcasts, and asked to edition prints through 20x200. All the while, I was paying my bills as a freelance book editor and growing increasingly frustrated by the great divide between the thing I loved and the thing I was doing for a living. So, in 2014, I started going after editorial and commercial work. I’ve shot for some amazing clients, and I bear-hug every project with the kind of enthusiasm that comes from (finally!) doing what I love.
I’m based in Los Angeles, where the light is magic every single day. When I’m not taking pictures, I’m hiking in the Hollywood Hills, rewatching a series I’ve seen a dozen times before, or eating an ice cream cone in a bookstore. My favorite writer is Joan Didion, my favorite album is The Winter of Mixed Drinks, and my favorite movie is The Graduate.
