Slut
It’s occurred to me that I have spent the past month, and maybe the past year, doing the photographic equivalent of sleeping around. I have been like a teenager who’s just discovered that sex really is as good as everything off-limits ever is. I’ve photographed anything and anyone who’s come along. And I am realizing that, sure, it’s good and all, even when you’re doing it fast and with people you don’t really know, but the people I admire are more conscious of who they’re doing it with, and so they’re more able to let go and they’re having a better time. In other words, I’m beginning to think that it really is better when you’re in love.
Resolved: Limit photographic sluttery in 2008.
P.S. If you haven’t read Jörg’s excellent interview with the complete delight who is Rachael Dunville, check it out. For me it was a sermon and a “Psst, kid, you ever tried this?” all at the same time, and it confirmed the thoughts outlined in this post, which had been simmering in me for a while.

Love the analogy. :) It's almost like you have a fancy writing degree or something...
great post Liz. i wouldn't call it love, but it's certainly infatuation. maybe from a far, maybe intimately, maybe only in spirit, but closeness (figuratively) is the key i think. it's about finding that special bit in your subject. whatever that is...
a friend asked me a while back about smiles. why don't i photograph people smiling. it's not intentional i told him, i simply want to recapture that moment when i am first drawn to someone. if it's their smile that i'm drawn to, then that's what i want to capture. if not, then it's something else. that unspeakable bit.
deep down, we all want to progress from being sluts into a long lasting relationship with our own beautiful style.
it will come.
I'm a slut! Don't hold that against me. Sometimes you got to take what you can get.
And luck has a lot to do with it, a lot. But remember: "Luck favors the prepared." So always be prepared. Cause those moments, if you are not ready for them, will haunt you. I am currently trying to forget two right now.
And don't over think it. If you are attracted to it, get it. There are no Photographically transmitted diseases out there, at least I hope not.
I remember snappin' some rusty old buildings near a brake supply company, when a fella came out and asked what I was doing. I said I like your rust and held out my hand. "I don't shake hands with people like you. We oughtta call the cops on 'im."
I shook my head and walked back to the truck, and realized that, at least for me, rust is sometimes kinder than blood.
Keep on catchin' the light. :)
